Madam Mayor chronicles the very full life of Audrey Sloat Campbell Egle, the first female mayor of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Starting with her childhood spent in Shenandoah Junction, to her time studying nursing in Martinsburg, to her arrival in and outsized service to the tiny town of Shepherdstown, Madam Mayor tells the story of a beloved fixture of her community.
Readers will also find chapters detailing the history and evolution of the two communities she called home, Shenandoah Junction and Shepherdstown.
H.S. Leigh Koonce is the author of three additional books, including Miss Elsie of Claymont. Educated at St. Maria Goretti High School and Shepherd University, he currently works as the Development Coordinator and Special Collections Coordinator at the Old Charles Town Library. A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, he resides just outside of Shepherdstown.
